Minehead Raft Race
Welcome to the Minehead Raft Race. We were invited along by Autohaus VW to film the event the Minehead Raft Race in 2011 and we had so much fun we went back the year after to film it again! It’s a great event for the whole family with great views of the action from around the bay. And, of course, it’s great fun to film the event.
At this years Minehead Raft Race however they ditched the caravan and made a far more suitable raft. Although having said that Tony, the owner of Autohaus, miscalculated the buoyancy of their raft so it sat rather low in the water. Another great day was had by all and the RNLI raised some much needed funds.
The Minehead Raft Race Day was started in 1980 and is the biggest free event in West Somerset. Centred around a sea-going raft race and culminating in an amazing fireworks display from the harbourside after sunset, the day long event is a great day out for the whole family. The rafts begin their journey on the beach opposite Butlins and then cut their way through the waves and across the the bay to the harbour.
The Minehead Raft Race is the towns largest event of the year and is organised by a small number of serving and retired RNLI crew members with the intention of raising money for the Royal National Lifeboat Association.
